Village Pilates
The East Village has a long reputation for less salty as the home of the homeless, drug dealers and prostitutes. This does not make it the first place that comes to the mind as a possible opportunity for property investment, but the master plan to the Land of the Municipal Corporation of Calgary (CMLC) released on September 16 2009 could mean that this piece of the devastated city could see a bit of new life.
Construction in the East Village has been going on for several years now, with the realignment of the street, wider walkways, and lighting fixtures. 12 blocks are currently under construction and shall be subject to more redevelopment in the future. However, CMLC plans for the area are even higher.
The master plan calls for six "character" areas, gateways at the 4th Street underpass, and the northwest corner of the neighborhood green space along the Bow River, including a riverside path, and a pedestrian bridge that crosses the center from the intersection of 4th St. and 8th Ave. River. Commercial and residential developments are planned within this framework to create a working community revitalized live / and up and encourage Calgary residents to consider this place like home.
Other plans include work on the island of St. Patrick with a new bridge and a pool / skating pool, a new music Design Center Cantos Music Foundation, including the King Edward Hotel. There much concern about how best to preserve the heritage of the condemned building, that dissipated when the Foundation moved in and began plans for revitalization. Now those plans are aligned with the offer of the CMLC to transform the entire neighborhood.
Hopes are high that the East Village will in the way of Eau Claire, once industrial land, now a thriving mix of condominiums, businesses, and the famous Eau Claire Market. The market is home to shops and unique restaurants that attract people from all parts of Calgary and visitors to the city. If the East Village can capture the attention of consumers and entrepreneurs, it is likely that their introduction as the newest live / work neighborhood in Calgary will be a success.
Definitely time will tell if the last attempt to reclaim the East Village will be a success. If so, those who invest in the first estate will be the winners. The CMLC plans to market the "new" East Village as the oldest quarter last warmer fresher ". If their plans succeed, the hope is that 11,500 people call the house in the East Village in 2020.
